HONKY - the ultimate true rock experience from three Southern gentlemen!

Well fine readers I must tell you about this great band! I first heard of this band when a friend played one of their albums for me. I was able to attend HONKY performances twice during the year 2004 in San Antonio, Texas. The pictures on this page are some taken during the first performance. This band has three musicians that put on a good show and respond to the audience well. During some short conversations it was evident that these guys are some nice down home fellas! Even though they may have an extensive history of playing with some other famous bands they are just having a good time playing some straight forward southern rock.

COME ON JEFF! HOW DID THIS REALY HAPPEN?
Jeff the bass player had tripped over some non secured equipment at a show a few days before this picture and the band was having much fun making up stories of how it happened. The longer the night lasted the wilder the stories became as did the enthusiasm of the story telling!

HONKY Guitar player!
The guitar player is another fine southern gentleman as you can see from this picture. I guess you can tell from the picture that he does some singing also! The vocals from these two guys are both manly and understandable, no high pitched squealing or marble mouthed grunting from this band!

HONKY HAS SOME STRONG DRUMMING KEEPING THE TIME!
How can a three man band function without a fabulous drummer? Well of course the drummer is always kicking and banging on stuff in a timely manner. Unfortunately the drummers normally are sitting in the back of the stage behind their equipment so it is tough to get good pictures of these unheralded musicians.

I am not going to try and classify or categorize HONKY's music as that would just be putting my own preconceptions on it. The album “House of Good Tires” has a song called “I might just shoot somebody” that can give an example of the flavor of the music. I mean you have to love a song that fits a dog, a gun, and some prickly pear within the first few lines! You can always visit their website www.honky.net and look around there and get an idea of what their influences might be. I will just say that I like it! If you get to see these guys around Austin, Texas or catch them on tour you will not be disappointed.
